Today was BMW factory tour day. I took a 1.5 hour train ride outside of Munich to the BMW factory in Regensburg. All of the M3, 1 Series, and Z4 cars are made out of this facility.
The tour was great. We walked through the production floor across the entire manufacturing of the car. From die cutting galvanized sheet steel to body and chassis welding to ‘marriage’ (as BMW defines it; where body and drive train meet). Understandably no photography was allowed inside, but it was surreal to see the cars being manufactureld by high speed robotics. No single process takes more than 60 seconds and the plant produces up to 3600 cars daily.
Afterward I walked around the picturesque town of Regensburg and had a wonderful Italian meal. I would love to live in one of these small heritage towns.
